I have a bit of a funny relationship with John Lewis – even though it’s in the middle of Eldon Square, I don’t often pop in there for a browse like I frequently do in Fenwick. I think it’s because I think of John Lewis as a bit old fashioned and a bit expensive. I tend to look there for presents for other people, not for myself. So when they invited me down to check out their beauty hall recently, I couldn’t say no. I wanted to find out what I’d been missing out on!
Buying a skincare or beauty product is quite often a risk – you get something and you hope it will work. I quite often buy things on recommendation from friends, from the beauty press or from other beauty bloggers. In fact I talked about this a little bit recently in my post about whether you can really trust a beauty blogger. But like I said, spending your money on new beauty is a gamble. Today I’m sharing five gambles that didn’t pay off.
Autumn is a funny time of year for me – I find the dark mornings and dark nights a bit depressing, but I love the cosy evenings spent snuggling under a blanket surrounded by candles and fairy lights. The one thing I am sure I love about autumn though is knitwear. I could buy jumpers all day every day. This autumn I’ve picked up a few jumper dresses and I wanted to share how I style them up.

Everyone has a part of their body they’re hung up about, right? Well I’ve always had this weird thing about my legs – I have a vague recollection of someone once referring to them as tree trunks when I was at school and since then I’ve only been able to see the bad bits of them.
Summer is my favourite time of year – I love the floaty clothes, the bright colours, the feeling of the warm sun on my skin. And the smells – I’m surrounded by the scent of glorious flowers and smokey BBQs for a few months of the year and I just love it. Smells have the power to connect you to a moment that’s gone before, which is why I think perfume is such an important accessory.
I love going to weddings, and part of the fun for me is picking what to wear. I’ve mostly been to summer weddings, but I’ve got my first ever winter wedding this November and I have no idea where to start with picking an outfit. So I’ve been browsing the shops for a couple of options to try once I’ve been paid (is anyone else just completely skint this month?!) and thought I’d share a few dresses I’ve got my eye on.
I’ve never been much of a glam gal. Don’t get me wrong, I love my makeup and I always have my nails painted, but I’ve never been bothered with fake lashes or nails, I just can’t muster up the energy. And I still can’t with false lashes (more on that to come), but I got some KISS false nails put on this week and I might just have had my head turned.
One of my favourite things about travelling is trying different cuisines from around the world. And I’ve found, over the years, that some of the best meals I’ve had abroad have been ones I’ve made myself. Andrew and I are trying to book them on every holiday we go on and so far we’ve made tagine in Marrakesh and spring rolls in Vietnam. It was a must do to book a cooking class in Indonesia and we booked Lobong Culinary Experience after reading some fab reviews on Trip Advisor.
Let me start by saying, there is a reason these bad boys have a 25,000 strong waiting list. It’s because they are FREAKING AMAZING. So, spoiler alert, I’m writing this because I just have to share the love!
There are a plethora of places to go in Newcastle for lunch, but sadly a lot of them are busy chains in the city centre. I never seem to run out of places to go for dinner in the toon (or drinks for that matter), but when it comes to lunch, I often feel stumped. So when I got invited along to Dog Leap Cafe, an independent cafe really close to my office, I jumped at the chance.
