Marco’s Newcastle: Just Another Steak Restaurant?

September 18, 2018

Marco's Newcastle

A few days before I was admitted into hospital unexpectedly, I had the pleasure of being invited to sample the menu at Marco’s, Newcastle. Marco’s is part of the Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar & Grill chain and is best known for its steaks (clue’s in the name). I’m not a huge steak eater so I wanted to test out whether it could cater for other tastes.

Discovering Hexham’s Restaurants

Discovering Hexham's Restaurants

Hexham is a lovely town that’s about half an hour’s drive outside of Newcastle city centre. It’s an old market town, with beautiful architecture, cobbled streets and, as it turns out, a whole host of delicious restaurants. Hexham is definitely worth a visit from the city centre and you can get the train from Central Station regularly and cheaply.

Dessert On Demand at Creams, Newcastle

Creams Newcastle

Hello, my name is Jennifer and I am a sugar addict. I’m a full-blown sugar monster, I just don’t seem to be able to kick the filthy habit. So when I got invited to try Creams in Newcastle, I just couldn’t turn it down. A restaurant dedicated solely to desserts? Hubba hubba.

Côte Brasserie – A Taste of France in Newcastle

November 6, 2017

Cote Brasserie Crab Mayonnaise

There seem to be a whole load of new restaurants popping up in the Toon, and I am all for it. In fact, you can check out some of my other recent restaurant reviews here. One of the latest is Côte Brasserie, a smart French restaurant on Grainger Street that’s taken over from another shut down bank.

A Beauty Retreat in the Heart of Newcastle

John Lewis Beauty 2

I have a bit of a funny relationship with John Lewis – even though it’s in the middle of Eldon Square, I don’t often pop in there for a browse like I frequently do in Fenwick. I think it’s because I think of John Lewis as a bit old fashioned and a bit expensive. I tend to look there for presents for other people, not for myself. So when they invited me down to check out their beauty hall recently, I couldn’t say no. I wanted to find out what I’d been missing out on!

Thread Vein Treatment At Aspen Beauty

Thread vein treatment

Everyone has a part of their body they’re hung up about, right? Well I’ve always had this weird thing about my legs – I have a vague recollection of someone once referring to them as tree trunks when I was at school and since then I’ve only been able to see the bad bits of them.

Lobong Cooking Class, Bali, Indonesia

Lobong Bali Cooking Class

One of my favourite things about travelling is trying different cuisines from around the world. And I’ve found, over the years, that some of the best meals I’ve had abroad have been ones I’ve made myself. Andrew and I are trying to book them on every holiday we go on and so far we’ve made tagine in Marrakesh and spring rolls in Vietnam. It was a must do to book a cooking class in Indonesia and we booked Lobong Culinary Experience after reading some fab reviews on Trip Advisor.

Dog Leap Cafe – A Hidden Gem in Newcastle

August 29, 2017

Dog Leap Cafe

There are a plethora of places to go in Newcastle for lunch, but sadly a lot of them are busy chains in the city centre. I never seem to run out of places to go for dinner in the toon (or drinks for that matter), but when it comes to lunch, I often feel stumped. So when I got invited along to Dog Leap Cafe, an independent cafe really close to my office, I jumped at the chance.
