Summer is my favourite time of year – I love the floaty clothes, the bright colours, the feeling of the warm sun on my skin. And the smells – I’m surrounded by the scent of glorious flowers and smokey BBQs for a few months of the year and I just love it. Smells have the power to connect you to a moment that’s gone before, which is why I think perfume is such an important accessory.
The wedding scent
Last August, I married my amazing husband, and I fretted for ages about what perfume to wear on the day. I eventually chose the one I wear the most, because it felt most “me”. That was Dolce & Gabanna, The One and my husband wore the male counterpart. Whenever I wear that scent now, I am transported back – not only to our wedding day – but to all the times I wore that fragrance in the years before.
The summer scent
For our first anniversary this year, I was gifted the beautiful new fragrance from Jimmy Choo, L’Eau*. It is a light, soft, sweet scent that is totally different to the deeper, more sensual D&G I had been used to, but I love it all the same. The fragrance is floral – with hibiscus and peony – and citrusy – from bergamot and nectarine. These delicate top notes are grounded by cedarwood and musk, stopping the perfume from being sickly sweet.
The packaging is just stunning and looks gorgeous on my dressing table. I am a bit of a packaging hoarder and I haven’t even been able to throw away the box for this one, it’s too pretty!
Although I was gifted the perfume a week or so before our anniversary, I held off wearing it until we enjoyed a beautiful meal at Miller Howe Hotel in Bowness-on-Windermere. And now, every time I put it back on, it takes me back to that memory – the sunset over the lake, the bottle of wine and the fun we had celebrating our first year as husband and wife.
The autumn scent
Now we’re officially into autumn, it would make sense to head back to a richer, woodier scent wouldn’t it? Well, maybe once we get into winter, but in the meantime I am continuing to wear my summer scent, because it gives me that little lift as the nights get darker and the rain sets in. I’d recommend you try it too – keep that summer scent on your wrists and be reminded of the sunshine.
What’s your favourite fragrance?

My perfume was kindly gifted by The Fragrance Shop, but all opinions about it are my own.
