So it’s confession time. This year, I totally failed at organisation. I didn’t carry out my wifely duties. I failed at being a decent human being. I completely forgot to get Andrew an advent calendar until the last day of November, when I frantically rushed around Newcastle looking for the good Lindt one (with no nuts). Needless to say, it was nowhere to be found and I had to confess my failings to my husband. To my horror, I then came home to find he had bought me the ASOS advent calendar. Cue me feeling like a total dick!
After smoothing things over with hubby (I pulled it back with a big box of Lindor balls and some gingerbread men FYI), I realised just how frigging excited I was to get such a beast of an advent calendar. It is HUGE!
I know people have banged on about beauty advent calendars being a waste of money because you only get minis and you end up with shit shades, but this is exactly why I specifically wanted the ASOS version. Yes it is full of minis BUT they are decent quality and they are a huge range of brands, meaning I get to try a little bit of everything new and hopefully find some new favourites.
Given I was such a lucky lady, I thought I’d share with you what I got in day one to ten so you can see whether you think it’s a worthwhile investment. Spoiler alert – I do!
Amie Deep Pore Exfoliating Polish
I’m really looking forward to using this – I’ve been looking for a good face scrub ever since I found out about how terrible microbeads are in my current Clean & Clear Exfoliating Wash. From the packaging, it looks natural so we will have to see how it fares!
Batiste Stylist XXL Plumping Powder
I have used this before and it is great for adding volume. If I want some back combing to stay in place, I use this. Perfect for the run up to party season! Only thing is, it’s a bit of a nightmare to get out of your hair without washing.
Dermalogica Clear Start Foaming Face Wash
I’ve never used Dermalogica skincare before so I’m looking forward to this. I’ve had bad skin on my jawline for the past few months and I know it’s because I’ve been eating too much processed food. This foaming wash might help me manage these diet related breakouts over Christmas.
Elemis Pro Radiance Illuminating Face Balm
I’ve used Elemis skincare because you get it free when you travel on British Airways and I’ve loved it. It absorbs quickly and smells beautiful. So this is a real treat for me. I can’t wait to use it and have lovely glowy skin!
Nip+Fab Glycolic Fix Daily Cleansing Pads
Nip+Fab skincare is some of my fave – I use the Dragon’s Blood serum every day so I’m really happy about trying these cleansing pads. Glycolic acid is meant to be amazing for fighting fine lines, acne, blackheads and dullness so it sounds like a bit of a miracle cure.
Burts Bees Tinted Lip Balm
My husband has recently discovered the joys of Burt’s Bees. Their lip balm is full of beeswax and shea butter, which keeps your lips feeling soft and this one is tinted, which adds just the perfect bitten look for winter.
Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream
I’ve only ever seen Balance Me products free on the front of magazines, so I don’t have really high hopes for this one. I am quite happy with my current Ren eye cream so I might use this one at night time and see how that goes.
Glam Candy Moisturiser
I have never heard of Glam Candy before so this should be another interesting one! The packaging is nice and sleek, reminds me of Glam Glow so I wonder if they are related?
Egyptian Magic All Purpose Cream
An excellent one for me – I’ve been dying to try this one! It is meant to be all purpose like Vaseline. I plan on using it for dry lips, cuticles and any other winter ailments.
Jane Iredale Smoothing Primer
I love the look of this and I’ve heard good things about Jane Iredale before. Even the packaging is absolutely beautiful. I’m in constant search for a good primer after my disappointment with Too Faced’s Hangover Primer so I’m happy to give this one a go.
So there you have it, here’s what I got in my ASOS advent calendar. I’d so love to put a link in for you to buy it yourself, but it doesn’t seem to be in stock anymore so I can’t do that. Maybe for 2017!
And if you can’t wait for the next post about what I get for the other 14 days, then follow me on Snapchat (spoiltbyjenni) where I am unboxing it daily.
What do you think – do you want the ASOS advent calendar next year?
