Travel: 4 Hours in Budapest – A Flying Visit!

December 4, 2015

Shoes on the Danube Bank

Last week I was lucky to have a totally flying visit to Budapest, Hungary.  In between various work commitments, I worked out that I had a total of four hours to get as much sight seeing done as I could in that time.  Having never been to Budapest before, and never even looked at a map of it before last week, I decided to get on the Google and look up the top sights to see.  Also shout out to Queen B for posting about Budapest *just* as I looked it up.  Good timing!

So what did I get up to in four hours?

Travel: Central Park in the Autumn

November 4, 2015

Autumn in Central Park

I’ve never been to America in the autumn (or fall for all you crazy yanks) but I had the absolute delight of being in New York at the weekend.  And ohmygosh Central Park was a sight to behold.  The colours in the trees were like nothing I’ve ever seen before – gold, yellow, red, bronze, green, russet and so many more colours I don’t even know the names of.  From the moment I walked into the park (listening to Taylor Swift’s Welcome to New York appropriately) I felt a huge sense of warmth and happiness.  The effect of the colours in the trees was just incredible.  I found a happy place.

A Day out at Beamish!

November 2, 2015

Beamish Pit Village View

Last week, Andrew and I took a long weekend to ourselves and decided to be local tourists.  We’ve both lived in the North East for at least ten years but not visited some of the top sights up here.  A couple of weeks ago we went to the Weeping Window at Woodhorn Poppy Exhibition (see my post about it here) and enjoyed it so thought we’d continue the historical sights.  This time, we headed South to Beamish.  For those not in the know, Beamish is a pretty cool living museum that covers a huge site in County Durham.  Once you’re there you’re transported back to the 18 and 1900s to see what life was really like then in the North East.  I was a bit apprehensive that it wouldn’t be as enjoyable as I’d found it when I visited as a kid.  So what was our verdict – worth it?

Travel With Me: New York’s Fifth Avenue

October 7, 2015

Looking back at the Empire State

Fifth Avenue is one of New York, if not the world’s, most famous streets.  It runs right down the middle of Manhattan, from 143rd Street, skimming the edge of Central Park until it hits Washington Square Park on 7th Street.  I have stayed in and around Fifth Avenue many times now, so thought I would share some great things to do as you stroll down this iconic sidewalk in the city.

Friday Five: Essential In-flight Beauty Products

September 11, 2015

Friday Five

I have had a really busy summer flying here, there and everywhere with work.  I am super lucky to be able to count international travel as one of my work benefits, but I have had the unexpected side effect of my skin really suffering.  My face is now much more oily than it used to be and my hands are more dehydrated.  I’ve most definitely learnt the importance of chugging a couple of litres of water a day and I’m starting to master the art of packing flight essentials in one small, plastic bag where everything has to be under 100ml.  Now is the time to pass on my wisdom!

Travel With Me: London’s Alcoholic Architecture

September 6, 2015

Alcoholic Architecture

So what do you do in London when you want to try something different?  Well there’s plenty on offer; London is not a city short of new and interesting experiences.  A case in point is Bompas & Parr’s Alcoholic Architecture, recently opened next to Borough Market.  I stumbled across it whilst browsing Time Out’s website and booked it on a whim, having heard nothing about it.

Friday Five: Places I’m Dying to Travel To

September 6, 2015

Friday Five

I am one of those people who would love to travel the entire world – one country after the next.  I am super jealous of Gunnar Garfors, the youngest hobby traveller to visit every country in the world while holding down a full time job!  Friday inspiration if I ever did hear it.
