I can’t believe it’s mid-October already! Doesn’t time fly. I’ve had such a busy summer that there’s been no time to even consider the fact it’s nearly autumn. But here October is, with its promise of winter boots and wooly tights – time to prepare for winter! So what’s on my wish list as we say goodbye to summer?
Beauty: High End Looks I’m Lusting After
It’s now officially less than one month until my birthday (wahoo!) and I can start to think about what I might like to treat myself to now I’m getting to the grand old age of 29 (eurgh). I’ve been gradually trying to up my make up game in preparation for the wedding next year (it feels like everything is in preparation for the wedding!), but also because I want to hit 30 and not have a make up bag full of cheap shite that is no good for my skin. I like to keep a running tally of things on my beauty wish list so that when I’m in the USA I can see if there are any bargains to be had or so I know what to treat myself to for special occasions. What’s on my high end beauty wish list right now?
Calling All Dr Marten’s Lovers: Their Wonder Balsam is Brilliant!
If you love Doc Martens as much as I do then you might already be acquainted with their Wonder Balsam. But I am new to it and I can’t quite get over how bloody brilliant it is! I own two pairs of leather DMs and one pair of their wellies and bought the balsam to protect them in preparation for a North East winter. You can obviously tell I really like it, but let me tell you why it is so good.
Adult Colouring Books
On Friday last week, it was World Mental Health Day, so I decided to share a post about my struggles with depression. I really do hope that me sharing what I’ve been through has helped some others who read it. Over the years I’ve managed to come up with some coping mechanisms that I can always fall back on to keep me occupied and make me happy. One of these is colouring in. I used to love drawing and colouring when I was a child and I sometimes wonder why I ever stopped doing it! Andrew bought me my first ‘adult’ colouring book for my birthday a couple of years ago and I’ve been hooked ever since.
Hello My Name is Jennifer and I am Depressed
I thought long and hard about writing this post because I know that people I know read my posts. And my mental health status isn’t something I tend to share with a lot of people. It almost feels like coming out of the closet. And of course, the problem with being depressed and anxious is that you feel anxious talking about it. I’m scared of being judged, I’m scared of people treating me differently, I’m scared of people doubting me. Because my depression is telling me that there will be more negative responses than good. It’s hard to think that anyone might be positively affected by me sharing how I feel with others, but, having seen a lot of other posts recently about the subject and given it’s World Mental Health Day, I thought it was time I got it off my chest and share my story.
Fashion: ASOS Reward Boots
I love ankle boots! They are comfortable, practical, stylish, protect your feet, don’t require you to have painted your toe nails (most of the time) and go so nicely with skinny jeans (which is pretty much all I wear). I have sooooo many pairs that Andrew is starting to get cross. But there is a different boot needed for each occasion and he needs to understand that boots are more than just a shoe, they are a way of life.
Travel With Me: New York’s Fifth Avenue
Fifth Avenue is one of New York, if not the world’s, most famous streets. It runs right down the middle of Manhattan, from 143rd Street, skimming the edge of Central Park until it hits Washington Square Park on 7th Street. I have stayed in and around Fifth Avenue many times now, so thought I would share some great things to do as you stroll down this iconic sidewalk in the city.
Beauty on Trial: Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil
I was recently gifted the very glamorous Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil after commenting to a friend how good hers looked! Lucky old me. It’s nice to get a beautifully wrapped package from time to time, and Harvey Nichols certainly don’t disappoint on that front. Even for just a small eyeliner box you get a beautifully packaged bag.
Best Bits: September 2015
Whhaaaaaat it’s the end of September?? Autumn is fast approaching and it’s getting noticeably chillier up here in the North East; even if it’s sunny you soon feel it when you’re in the shade. Lots of people seem to be big fans of autumn and I must admit that, although I’m a sunshine lover, I am coming round to the idea of cosy knitwear and living in Doc Martens for a couple of months. So, looking back on September, what did I get up to? CONTINUE READING
Wedding Bells: Getting Organised – The Free Tools a Bride to Be Can Rely On
Planning a wedding is no mean feat. It can take up months of your life and if you’re not careful it can become overwhelming and more of a chore than an exciting part of your life that you look forward to planning. I’m relatively lucky in that I am a Project Manager for my day job, so being organised is just part of my life. (I promise I kind of am, even if I might not seem it at times!) Despite being relatively organised, I do however have a terrible memory and if something needs doing I have to write it down first. So I knew I would have to be organised when it came to planning the wedding and keeping on top of all the details.
