Hello Jennifer Helen

My First Week Wearing False Nails

September 7, 2017

KISS False Nails

I’ve never been much of a glam gal. Don’t get me wrong, I love my makeup and I always have my nails painted, but I’ve never been bothered with fake lashes or nails, I just can’t muster up the energy. And I still can’t with false lashes (more on that to come), but I got some KISS false nails put on this week and I might just have had my head turned.

KISS False Nails

I was invited to a fabulous event hosted by KISS to find out about their huge range of artificial nails and was soon sucked in to the hype. By the time I’d seen all the pretty nails and watched a long line of lovely ladies get their nails done, I just had to get in on the action. I went for a dark blue sparkly set that thankfully someone else applied for me.

Day 1

I can’t quite believe how long they are – and I have no idea of how to get them off – but I’m pretty happy with how they look! Getting home, my husband is in shock and immediately asks me when they’re coming off. Does anyone else find these things to be total man repellers?

Day 2

A life in false nails is harder than I thought. HOW do you wipe your bum? HOW do you undo your buttons? And don’t even get me started on putting in and taking out contact lenses. I end up spiking myself in the face way more than I ever have before. Pulling on leggings or skinny jeans is a whole new level of hell.

Day 3

Today I end up playing an hour of tennis and a spot of badminton and my nails survive. To be honest, I’m pretty surprised! I wash my hair and give my scalp a good scratch with my talons – bliss.

Day 4

Typing is a bitch. I make horrible clicky noises, make more typos than ever and generally piss myself off. My straight talking colleague says the nails look chavvy, which to be honest, I’m kind of feeling!

Making dinner, I forget how long my nails are and almost chop the end of my thumb nail off slicing an onion. Thankfully my skin is still intact.

Day 5

My first casualty! Five days in and my ring finger nail pops off on the street. I was probably fiddling with my nails – it’s a habit I just can’t shift – but it falls off easily and I don’t bother looking for it on the floor. I have a spare, but I’m reluctant to put it on.

By this point, the tips of some of the other nails have started to peel right at the end – almost as though the top coat is lifting. It’s not noticeable enough for anyone else to see, but I wonder how long the other nine are going to last.

It’s time to soak them off!

Would I wear them again?

I’m not going to lie, they took a fair while to get used to and there are a lot of things I’m not sure I will ever get used to with nails that long. I seriously don’t enjoy taking out my lenses with them on and typing is just a PAIN. That said, I loved having glam nails and I got a fair few comments on them, especially as they’re a different look for me!

I’ve got a couple of other packets of KISS nails – next on my list is the black and leopard ones, which are squarer, shorter AND are pre-glued so I’m less likely to mess up the application. They look great and sound easy to use.

From what I’ve seen, I would recommend trying KISS – particularly because they have such a big range of designs – but I am no expert! You can pick them up from Boots and Superdrug and they only cost around £6.50 for a set.

Do you wear false nails?

I was gifted my KISS nails, but all opinions about them are my own.

Yeah, I think I’ll only be wearing them once every few months or so. I’d be worried about damaging my nails!

Loved this honest review – a clear indication that good bloggers are not influenced by freebies.

i wear falsies on special occasions, i don’t find them too difficult to get on with if i’m honest. these ones by kiss seem reasonably priced so i’ll check them out as 5 days is longer than mine normally last!

What a fab comment, thanks Sam! I thought falsies would last much longer – a week or so!
