When I look at myself naked, semi-naked or topless (which I probably do at least a couple of times a day), I don’t think “wow you’ve got big boobs”. In fact, I’d say my boobs were pretty average size for my height and weight. (Side note – is there even any way to find out what the average bra size is for your height and weight?) When I was at school, I would even say I had small boobs. I was a B cup, and for a 5′ 9″ girl, that ain’t too big. But as I’ve got older, my boobs have got bigger. Given they’re mostly made of fat, that’s probably in direct correlation to how much I eat (I was a whippet at school) but even now I’ve lost a stone and maintained my exercise regime, my ta-tas have stayed at a strong 32DD / 32E.
My current sports bra situation
I am lucky that I still fall into the range where I can wear pretty bras and not ones that resemble potato sacks and for that I am super grateful. I have found, however, that it is nigh on impossible to find a decent sports bra for those who are blessed with slightly larger lady lumps. I normally go to Sports Direct for this kind of thing because, you know, it’s a sports shop and I like it cheap. But lately what I’ve found there just hasn’t cut it.
I need something more than a glorified crop top and something less than an underwire. I can’t bear the thought of exercising in an underwire. I need a firm, tight elastic back band and I need something that stops the old watermelons from bouncing everywhere. I also need bras that come in BRA SIZES, not clothes sizes, not S / M / L, no thanks, I just want bra sizes from my bra.
I didn’t actually think all of the above was too much to ask, but I was wrong.
Finding a sports bra at Simply Be
So I decided to explore my other options. I looked in department stores, online, on the high street. Then I came across the sportswear at Simply Be. My misconception of Simply Be was that they only offer clothing for the plus size lady, but I was wrong.
Simply Be originally targeted themselves at clothes size 12 – 34, but did you also know they stock size 8 and 10? Not only that, but they also stock sports bras in actual bra sizes. And they cater for those with a slightly bigger bosom than your average bear.
I picked up the Glamorise Sport Adjustable Control bra because it’s brightly coloured (and I love me some colourful sportswear), it’s machine washable, it has a supportive back, adjustable straps and an amazing second adjustable option on the front of the straps, so I can really hoik those bad boys in when I need to.
That means that if I am doing high intensity exercise (HIIT for example), then I can raise the front clasp to the highest hook and it will flatten my chest the most. If I am doing more gentle exercise, I can lower the front clasp to a lower hook and it will give a slightly looser fit. Absolutely genius and it works so well, I love it because I only need one sports bra for all types of exercise now!
So if you are also struggling to find a sports bra that fit your bigger boobs in, then try Simply Be!
Where do you get your sports bras from? Have you tried Simply Be?
