Fashion “rules”, who made them up? Where do we get these ideas from? That you can never wear navy and black, that red and green should never be seen, that pink and red don’t go? I recently re-dyed my hair back to a brighter, less natural coppery, blondey, orangey colour that I absolutely love. But it made me question whether I could still get away with wearing the large amount of pink clothes that are in my wardrobe. Orange hair and pink clothes? I’m breaking some kind of fashion rule here, aren’t I?
Well, I think it’s time to call BS on fashion rules. Wear what you want, when you want, where you want. Clothes are a form of self-expression, they are all about you, not about what someone else says you should wear. I like bold colours, stripes, spots, stars, embroidery, leather, leopard print, camouflage and everything in between. And if I want to wear them, I damn well will.
So here are some of my recent favourite pink outfits that I think go just brilliantly with my orange hair. I’ve picked a smarter outfit, a casual outfit and some hot pink accessories.
All Dressed Up
I bought this Fashion Union dress in the ASOS sale for £14.50, which I think was a total bargain. It has long sleeves, a fitted body and beautiful pleated skirt, all in a gorgeous salmony pink colour. The top buttons up and ties with a black tie, which brings the outfit together perfectly.
I team it with my suede, black over the knee boots (also from ASOS, similar here) that are looking rather battered now and black tights because, hello, it’s still cold in Newcastle.
Keeping It Casual
I have *just* realised that this shirt is also from ASOS (similar here). It seems I have a bit of an addiction. But it is a beauty, right? An oversized shirt and skinny jeans is my daily go to. I have a wardrobe full of shirts for that very reason. I love this pink one because it’s combined with blue rather than black, making the check just a little bit different. It’s also a really comfortable and warm soft flannel material.
I have teamed it here with Primark ripped skinnies and black Converse low tops.
Pink Accessories
My pink hat, gloves and scarf are all from Next (similar here) and they are a super bright hot pink. I LOVE them!
I teamed these accessories with my big black parka from Zara (similar here) and an equally hot pink from Make Up Revolution. I also wore a mixture of pink eyeshadows from Urban Decay’s Naked 3 and the Gwen Stefani palette. Pink on pink on pink, what’s better?
What fashion rules are you breaking today?
