Since a huge NYX counter opened in Boots in Eldon Square, I’ve found myself creeping back there time and again. There is something about NYX that I really love. Not only is the make up cruelty free, but it is also really well priced and there are a load of innovative products on offer. If I’m looking for a high end dupe, or just to try something new, NYX is the brand I find myself turning to. I first discovered it when I was shopping in New York and someone had recommended I pick up one of their matte lip creams. I did (post here) and haven’t looked back since. I got a couple of bits recently just before the wedding and I’m loving them all. Check out what I picked up.
Matte Finish Setting Spray
My wedding photographer recommended that I focus on making my skin look more matte than glowy for the big day, because glow + sunshine + stress / emotion can make your skin look very shiny. And since shine is already something I battle, I listened up.
I had my eye on the Urban Decay All Nighter spray but didn’t have a huge desire to spend £22 on it. I had tried my friend’s and liked it, but was looking for something a bit cheaper. That’s where I came across the NYX matte finish setting spray (£7).
I was a bit surprised when I first tried it because it a lot wetter on your face than the Urban Decay, which is more of a fine mist. However, as soon as it had dried, it felt great. My make up stayed in place with no shine. I’ll definitely be trying it again.
Matte Not Flat Powder Foundation
Although I want my face to stay matte, I definitely don’t want to look like a powdery ghost with no definition. So when I saw the name of this powder foundation (£10), I was intrigued. I tried it on the back of my hand and loved the soft texture.
I have worn this a couple of times and it can get a little bit cakey in the fine lines around my eyes. BUT that was when I have worn it more as a finishing powder than a foundation. Not what it was intended for. I love the colour and the texture and will definitely keep trying it out.
Soft Matte Lip Cream in Zurich
NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams are THE BOMB. I love them. They last ages and aren’t (too) drying on the lips. They don’t quite match up to MAC matte lipsticks but they’re a brilliant cheaper alternative.
Zurich is the best colour lippie I think I’ve ever found. YES it is that good. It’s the perfect every day colour and looks a lot pinkier on the skin than it does in the barrel (the age old problem with NYX lip creams – the colour looks totally different to the packaging!). Whenever I wear it, I get loads of compliments but actually the colour is a lot like a much prettier version of my own lips.
Seriously, go buy it now. For £5.50, it’s so worth it!
Have you tried any of these NYX bits? Which is your favourite?
