I’ve been having a bit of a love affair with foundation recently. It used to be one of those beauty products I never really got bothered about. I always bought the same one, same colour, because I knew it kind of made my skin look all right. I’m not entirely sure what shook me out of this foundation funk, but a few months ago I decided to shake it all up and try something new. I now have four foundations I play around with depending on what my skin needs, so I thought I’d share them with you on the blog.
The Everyday Foundation
At the moment, I am using the L’Oreal Paris Nude Magique Cushion Foundation. It isn’t super full coverage and although the adverts say you can build it up with more taps, it doesn’t seem particularly buildable to me.
The cushion compact is easy to use and the shade I’ve got is just right for me (Rose Vanilla). It looks really natural and doesn’t make my t-zone oily.
I did buy it when it was on sale at £10 but it currently retails for £14.99. To be honest, I’m not sure whether I would re-purchase at the higher price – I might look for something else that was more of a medium coverage.
The Oily Skin Foundation
I do have an oily t-zone, but when I am eating right, staying well hydrated (three litres a day people!) it doesn’t feel that oily. Let’s face it though, with all the wedding stresses, I’ve found it hard to keep my diet and water intake in check. When my skin is oily I turn to Soap & Glory One Heck of a Blot.
This foundation is great for my oily skin BUT my skin has to be oily for it to sit nicely on my skin. If my skin is normal, I find it cakes around my nose, drawing more attention to the areas I want to conceal.
The finish is great – liquid to powder look and I really like its thick consistency. Unfortunately, it has a woefully small shade range so I can look a little bit orange when I wear it. Soap & Glory, sort it out!
The Glowy Skin Foundation
I had heard and read people RAVING about this foundation before I bought it, so it was a real no-brainer when I was looking for something new. I had visions of clouds parting, cherubs strumming harps and my hair blowing in the wind as I reached for the bottle. Sadly, that wasn’t the case, but the Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation is still a good bet for glowing skin.
It’s not *great* for those oily t-zone days – if I wear it on an oily day, I have to make sure I carry powder around with me otherwise my nose will be a bit of an oil slick come 3pm.
But it does give really good coverage, applies softly and easily and blends well.
The Full Coverage Foundation
For me, this is the Big Daddy of my foundation wardrobe. It’s a hard hitter. It knocks the other drugstore foundations out of the park. Ladies and gentlemen, a drum roll please for Estée Lauder Double Wear.
Whenever I wear this foundation, I know I will have a good skin day. I don’t need to worry about a shiny forehead come the afternoon or a cakey nose by tea time. IT. DOES. NOT. BUDGE. Not only that, but my skin looks flawless with this on it.
It is full coverage and covers all of my blemishes as well as my shine. I know it works and I trust it implicitly. Yes it is three times the price of the other foundations I have but you can seriously tell. Everything about it is better.
Unfortunately, I bought in haste and got a shade that I think is slightly too warm for my skin (Pure Beige) but I mix it with The Body Shop Lightening Drops (post coming soon!) and that makes it the perfect shade for me.
So those are my current foundation faves – what do you wear? Any you would recommend?
