Beauty on Trial: R.I.P. Boots No 7 Fanomenal Lash Mascara

September 6, 2015

Boots No 7 Fanomenal Lash

Now let me start this by saying I am a huge Boots No 7 fan – I use their make up products in my daily routine and the skin tone matching tool for the foundation is, quite frankly, bloody genius. Add to that that everything they offer is priced really reasonably and I’m a happy bunny.

The other thing to note is that I am in constant pursuit of the perfect mascara – one that lengthens, separates and stays put all day, in the blackest of blacks. And we all know that the key to a good mascara application is in the brush. Get that right and the rest will naturally follow (with one exception, but that’s for another day).

So with all that in mind, let’s set the scene: there I was minding my own business, having a browse through Boots for some new lip balm and make up remover (more on that later), when I mooched on over to the No 7 counter to do my usual check up on what’s new.

“An 80th anniversary gift box, ooh very interesting. With a voucher for a free lipstick matching, ooh I’ve been meaning to do that for a while” were the thoughts running through my head. “I’ll get a mascara then, because I always need mascara.” Cut to my frowning face as I scour the mascara stand to find Fanomenal Lash Mascara (my FAVOURITE daily wear mascara). It normally comes in a silver tube, but the one in the silver tube is now called Dramatic Lift. Hmm that’s not it and the brush is totally wrong. I ask the shop assistant where my beloved Fanomenal Lash is, who checks with her colleague, before delivering the terrible line “that one has been discontinued”.

Nooooooooooo!

I tell you, there is no worse feeling than not being able to get your favourite product anymore (Andrew is going through the same thing right now with hair wax). You have to go through several painful months of money and constant misery to find a new favourite. It is a true grieving process.

So these are my options moving forward.

  1. I can still buy Fanomenal Lash on the Boots website. This is excellent news.
  2. After I make a small stockpile of Fanomenal Lash I will begin the trial and error process of trying new mascaras…
  3. Starting with the Boots No 7 Stay Perfect mascara as the brush intrigues me.

I feel better now for having a plan of action in place. Has your favourite product ever gone out of stock? How have you coped?!

Oh and if anyone can share any mascara recommendations, they’d be greatly appreciated.

R.I.P. Fanomenal Lash. You’ve been good to me and you won’t be forgotten.

♥ JH
